This website, all its content, services and products (collectively, now known as the Website) are owned and operated by The Rare Monkey/Patterns in the Jam/Joanne Gale, who is a sole trader based in the UK. Please read this Agreement carefully before accessing or using the Website. By accessing or using any part of the Website, you agree to become bound by this agreement. If you do not agree to all the terms and conditions of this agreement, then you may not access the Website or its services.You will be asked to confirm you agree with these terms before placing an order.
From time to time these terms are amended. Please check this agreement regularly and before placing an order, even if you have placed an order before.
These terms are governed by English Law. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are resident of Northern Ireland or Scotland you may bring proceedings from there. Between us and other businesses, we agree that the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any disputes or claims.
The Rare Monkey Picture Books
Our The Rare Monkey picture books (The Rare Monkey with the Colourful bottom and The Rare Monkey Can’t, Couldn’t Can!) are children’s picture books. They both have 44 full colour pages (the stories spread 40 of these pages) printed on 130gsm paper. In their Paperback from, these books are A5 in dimension – 210mm height x 148mm wide.
Please note children must be supervised at all times while using our books, bookmarks, Rare Monkey info slips and any other promotional material(s) and or postage and packaging materials that we have provided to you; our products are not toys. All postage and packaging must be disposed of and is not for children’s use.
Please read all the details below before placing your order.
Every effort is made to display our products and their colours accurately on our Website. We can not guarantee that your computer displays our colours correctly. Colours may vary slightly.
The Rare Monkey picture books in their Paperback form and are only available to ship to the UK. Customers from outside the UK may place an order, but the shipping address must be within the UK. Please note, orders made outside the UK using PayPal may be charge a conversion fee(s) by PayPal. Please see PayPal’s terms and conditions for details of these fees and to agree to their terms and conditions.
Customers interested in placing an order to ship outside of the UK please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss the possibility. We can not guarantee we will be able to process your order but we will endeavour to. If shipping is possible, you will be require to cover the shipping costs and you will be responsible for any import duties and taxes. You are liable and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country we agree to send your order to. All books posted outside of the UK are non returnable and non refundable.
To place an order via our Website, a customer’s name, email, billing address and shipping address are required. This information is only used to process your order and will never be used for any other reason and or sold to any third parties. We may hold onto all your order information for up to five years. This is only to keep track and sort any order queries that should arise. Please note, our website uses WordPress and their e-commerce plug-in(s) to process orders. By using our Website you agree to WordPress and their terms and conditions. Our website uses SSL.
If you place an order, either via or outside of our Website and pay using PayPal the name, shipping address and billing address you enter will be sent and processed by PayPal. Please see their terms and conditions and agree to them accordingly.
Please check your details are correct before placing and confirming your order. Any mistakes and or amendments please contact email@example.com. An amendment may delay your order, so please allow extra time for this.
Payment(s) via our website can also be made using a credit and or debit card through bank transfer (see Bank Transfer below) or PayPal (see PayPal below for more details).
Please note that we or our Website will never ask for, records and or holds onto debit and or credit card details.
Having placed an order you will receive a confirmation email sent to the email address you gave us. Please check these details. Your order will begin to be processed. If paying by bank transfer you will receive an email informing you how to pay us. We will start processing your order but can not dispatch it until funds are in our account.
- Ebook. When ordering our Ebook you will receive a second confirmation email and link to your download. This download is live for 3 weeks. One download per payment. You will receive a separate emailed receipt.
- Paperback. When ordering our books in Paperback, you will receive a second email when you order has been dispatched. You will receive a separate emailed receipt. If this does not come through please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org. Please see Delivery below for more details.
If we can not supply a product or process your order we will contact you through the email address you have given us. If our product is out of stock, you will be asked if you wish to be added to a waiting list and or refunded. If we can not provide the product at all, any payments you have made to us will be refunded back to you as quickly as possible. Refunds can only be made to the card you used for your order. If you paid via PayPal, we take no responsibility for any delay PayPal may make in refunding you. Please see PayPal website for more details.
By paying through bank transfer you save us PayPal’s commission fees – thank you.
Once you have choosen to pay via Bank Transfer and placed your order through our Website, a confirmation email, sent to the email address you provided us, will contain our bank account details. You must transfer the total amount for your order to our bank account for your order to be dispatched. Please use your order Ref number provided in your confirmation email plus RareMonkey or your name to identify your transfer. ie #456RAREMONKEY or #456JOEBLOGGS. Please ensure you identify your payment using your reference number and RareMonkey or name otherwise your order may be delayed.
Payments must have cleared in our account before your order can be dispatched.
You accept that the internet maybe an unsafe and insecure place. By making a transfer to us, you take responsibility that the transaction you make is safe and secure. If using your bank’s website, we take no responsibility for that website, its security and or authenticity and their terms.
As above – If you place an order, either via or outside of our Website and pay using PayPal the name, shipping address and billing address you enter will be sent and processed by PayPal. Please see their terms and conditions and agree to them accordingly.
When paying with PayPal you will be redirected to PayPal’s website. It is your responsibility to check their site is genuine and secure.
PayPal have their own terms of service which is available on their site. You agree to read and agree to their terms of service before making your payment. It is not necessary to set up an account with PayPal to place your order.
In accordance with PayPal’s terms, downloads are non refundable and returnable.
If PayPal holds or delays a payment and therefore delays an order; we take no responsibility for this delay. Any issues must be addressed to PayPal. Please see their website for details and contact information.
If you wish to make an order but do not wish to use our Website, please contact email@example.com to discuss the possibility.
A receipt will be emailed to the email address you gave us. We do not provide paper receipts.
VAT is not charged on Paperback books. VAT is charged at 20% on Ebooks in the UK and is included in the overall price. If UK laws change our product prices will be adjusted asap. If you have already paid and or are paying for your order when this change change happens, you will not be charged the rate of VAT at the time your order was placed.
Eooks are made available to downloaded within 24 hours after your order is placed. We are not able to provide you a specific time. If your payment needs to clear, your download may be delayed. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if it has been 48 hours since you ordered and your download has not yet been made available. Only one download per payment is permitted and you must download your order(s) within 3 weeks of receiving the email instructing that your download is now available.
Postage and packaging for Paperback books is charged at £2.00 per book for orders placed via our Website and addressed to UK locations only. All Paperback book are posted through Royal Mail either first or second class. Sometimes we post orders recorded delivery depending on your order/at our discretion. You will not be charged extra for this. We take no responsibility for Royal Mails service and or their terms and or any delay they may cause to your order. Your order should reach you within 1- 4 working days after it has been dispatched.
If after 10 days your order has not arrived, please contact email@example.com with your order reference and your full name. We will get back to you asap.
Occasionally an order may be affected by Events Outside of our Control. Please see details below.
EBooks are non refundable and non returnable.
One Ebook download is available per payment.
You accept that the internet can be insecure. We take all reasonable and serious care to ensure our Website and download is safe and secure. You agree that any download is at your own risk and accept responsibility for any damages to your software, computer and or self.
For Paperback book orders within the UK, you have a 14 day cooling off period, starting from the date your order was dispatched, to cancel your order and obtain a full or part refund. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to return an order and we will provide you a return address. By returning a book(s) you agree to cover the cost of returning the book(s) recorded delivery. The book must be returned in its original condition for a full refund. A part refund will be offered if the books are not in their original condition and therefore their value has decreased ie they have been handled by you in a way that would not be permitted in a shop and or they have not packaged correctly and have been damaged in transit. A full or part refund is at our sole discretion.
If you’re Paperback arrives faulty and or damaged you will need to return the book(s) to us. Please contact email@example.com for a return address and to agree on postage costs and methods prior to returning. If the item(s) are not returned we can not provide a refund or replacement. When the item reaches us we will refund you your postage costs. This applies to UK orders only.
If you used PayPal, your refund maybe made through PayPal to the card you used. We take no responsibility for any delays PayPal may cause to your refund and or any commission(s) and or fees PayPal may take/make on this transaction. We will only refund you the amount you paid for your order and will reimburse any fees PayPal’s may take.
Our Paperback books have a 3 month warranty commencing from their dispatch date.
This does not affect your Statutory rights or your rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 Act.
If you place an order via our Website or contact us via our email firstname.lastname@example.org or via any other means, such as our social media, this does not mean any of your details will automatically be added to our mailing list.
Your email and name will only ever be added to our mailing list if you agree to this, either via the pop up on our home page or if we email you personally to ask and you consent or if you email us ask to be added to our mailing list.
We will and have never given your details to third parties. We’ve always hated all that stuff.
We do not send emails to our mailing list often – we usually only email our mailing list twice or three times a year.
Of course you have the right to opt out of our mailing list at any time, to contact us to find out what information we hold about you and you have the right to be forgotten by us. Please email email@example.com with either MORE INFO or DELETE ME in the subject line and we will process your request within 2 weeks.
Our Website will collect the following; Strictly necessary cookies; which allow our Website to operate ie using the shopping cart, post a comment. Analytical and or performance cookies; count the number of visitors on our site and how they use our site. Targeting cookies; record your visit to our site, the pages you have visited, the links you have followed.
Except for essential cookies, all cookies will expire after some time. At any time you can disable cookies in your browser and or delete all cookies currently stored on your computer. If all cookies are deleted certain areas of our Website may not work. No login information is required to use our site which means our site collects very limited cookies.
We never pass any cookie information on to third parties. The search, performance and or analytic engines that help our Website function (mainly WordPress) may access some of the cookie information from time to time.

You give us information about you when contacting us, placing an order, posting a review and or comments on our Website and when entering our competitions, promotions and or surveys. Your details will never be added to our Mailing List or used in any other way without your consent ie if you have placed an order you will never automatically be added to our Mailing List. We never give any details willingly to any third party companies. Please note our website uses WordPress and by using our site you agree to their terms and conditions.

If you make an order, we will collect information about you to process and ship your order but this information will not be used in any other way. In order to process your order we may hold your information for up to 5 years – be see more details in Orders above.
At times we may record your IP address, your browser type, time zone settings, browser plug ins and operating system. This information is only used to help improve our Website.This information will not be passed to third parties.
If you create an account using a password through our Website, you are responsible for keeping the password(s) confidential. We take no responsibility for your passwords security.
The UK Companies Act 2006 gives you the right to access information held about you. As mentioned above you have the right to opt out of our mailing list at any time, to contact us to find out what information we hold about you and you have the right to be forgotten by us. Our analytic and search engine providers, who assist the improvement and optimisation of our Website (our website is created using WordPress) may record certain information as detailed in our Cookies and Privacy Policies.
No debit and or credit details are ever held by us or our Website. We never pass any your information that you have provided for an order to any third parties.
We take no responsibility for any links/posts/details of and or to any third party websites on our Website. If you post content on our website (for example, including but not limited to comments, links, text, graphics, audio, video and or computer software (any such material, “Content”) ) you will be required to enter your name and email address. We hold the right (though not the obligation) to delete any Content made at any time and the sole discretion to deny access to our Website with no obligation to provide a refund if any funds have been previously paid. In extreme cases we may have to pass your details to the police.

Event Outside Our Controls
We are not responsible for any delay or failure to fulfil our obligations under these Terms if the delay or failure is caused by an event beyond our reasonable control. These event include but are not limited to strikes, lock-outs or other industrial action by third parties, civil commotion, riot, invasion, terrorist attack or threat of terrorist attack, war (whether declared or not) or threat or preparation for war, fire, explosion, storm, flood, earthquake, subsidence, epidemic or other natural disaster, or failure of public or private telecommunications networks, impossibility of the use of railways, shipping, aircrafts, motor transport or other means of public and or private transport.
These condition do not affect your statutory rights.
If such an event beyond our control happens we will contact you as soon as possible and keep you up to date with your orders progress. Please allow us time for this and any delays.
We are passionate about being a green conscious business.
The Rare Monkey books are printed on FSC approved paper. Our bookmarks are printed on 50% recycled 50% FSC paper mix. Our printer and books and bookmarks are printed in the UK.
Our envelopes are made from FSC paper to the best of our knowledge and through research.
Paper used for paper work, designs and writing is either recycled and or reused.
We endeavor to recycle business paper, cardboard and waste which will be processed by our local council.
